Artist Statement

pellvetica-about-portrait-512.png

Pellvetica’s high-contrast artistic, illustrative style combines an underlying logical grid system with an intuitive, organic pattern overlay.

Their goal is to celebrate the intersection of order and chaos in each work and help people experience moments beyond words.

No stroke is less important than any other; all strokes are needed to create the whole experience.

Inspiration for artworks conjures varied reactions in viewers, whether that brings feelings of peace, empowerment, confidence, stress, passion, anxiety, and even chaos.

The duo has worked in multiple formats, including custom commercial murals (interior and exterior), art prints, applied illustrations, fine art commissions, digital art, vinyl wraps, packaging, and more.

Scott Littlejohn

Creative Director, Maricich Health on behalf of the L.A Care Health Plan

“From kicking the project off to the final delivery, Steve and Sandy exemplified professionalism at its best. Working with Steve and Sandy was an absolute pleasure. All our deadlines were met, even under high expectations. Once we spoke with Steve and Sandy, their easy-going manner, smart questions, and quick response made it easy to recommend them for the project favorably. Having seen their work highlighted on LinkedIn, their uniquely eye-catching, vibrant, and engaging style drew us in. It showed great originality along with a polished sense of craft. The next time we have a project that fits Steve and Sandy’s style, we would hire them again and recommend them to our peers.”

Jane McFadden

Executive Director, Kitsilano West 4th BIA, City of Vancouver

“The #kitswings mural that Sandy and Steve Pell created within our neighbourhood is now a new “landmark” in our city. Public art and murals provide spaces with a reason for destination and share and stay longer–which all goals of our Business Improvement Association and all of the reasons we wanted the mural up. We’ve witnessed a considerable increase in traffic at the intersection of 4th and Burrard (the entrance to our neighbourhood) thanks to this newly beautified mural space. Tourism Vancouver has requested they add it to their website as a way of letting millions of tourists visiting Vancouver know what is in our neighbourhood, Kitsilano. After creating the hashtag #kitswings, we’ve seen an average increase of 15 new Instagram posts a day related to the mural. It was terrific to work with Sandy and Steve, and we look forward to creating more beautified spaces within our neighbourhood.”

Sasha Walker

Public Relations and Community Specialist, Clearly

“It was an absolute pleasure to work with Sandy Pell and Steve Pell. They were professional, communicative, and creative–and got a big job done in a short period. We at Clearly commissioned Pellvetica to design an interactive floor mural that would celebrate the upcoming World Sight Day, an annual celebration of awareness for blindness and vision impairment. It was our goal to create an eye-catching, optical illusion mural that could inspire the public on Clearly’s commitment to the importance of this day. Sandy and Steve were quick to deliver on this ask. They designed and illustrated a massive vinyl floor mural that brought our vision and brand to life. More than an estimated 46,000 visitors walked through the Vancouver building and saw the mural, and we had nearly 5 million media impressions, which included their commercial illustration artwork. I would highly recommend working with Sandy and Steve for any creative illustration needs.”

Harry Chemko

Co-founder & CEO, Elastic Path Software

“We knew we were missing something in our new office when we first moved in–but we didn’t know quite what. With Steve and Sandy’s help, we decided to commission a mural that would span our office’s entire central lobby wall. We planned to use this large-scale, custom, feature art mural as a backdrop for group photos with customers, partners, staff, and guests. We genuinely appreciate Pellvetica’s creativity. This mural helps to bring Elastic Path’s brand and values to life.”

Nick Boyd

Principal, Fusion Projects

“Sandy and Steve Pell did a fantastic job with our office mural, Inertia, which depicted the Nautilus shell. The mural represents nature’s perfection in architecture and truly complements the Fusion Project’s office vibe. Architecture is a grand fraction of our culture and a topic we commonly admire to raise discussion. Our visitors never fail to notice the new mural, and when they do, they are in awe–speaking of its character. The mural sheds harmony aligned with the nature of our design and construction business. Since our initial introduction to Sandy and Steve, thanks to a former design-build project at Hootsuite, we’ve witnessed the wonderful work done. I am confident in Sandy and Steve’s continued success as commercial artists. These two hyper-talented visionary artists will magnify many surfaces to come.”

Aaron Kafka

Owner, Kafka’s Coffee and Tea

“Last August, Sandy and Steve Pell painted a phenomenally large, custom mural on my cafe’s face–Kafka’s Coffee and Tea–as part of the inaugural Vancouver Mural Festival. This mural has added unimaginable value to our business. They essentially recreated my brand, gave the front of the cafe a facelift, and helped me entrench my business into the Mount Pleasent and art college community. The results have shown themselves in a generous increase in sales and online traffic. Pellvetica’s reputation for being creative, passionate, honest, and fun artists to work with holds strong. I plan on working with them again in the future, and I am excited to see how they can help other businesses.”
